ZhanPlan is a personal finance dashboard that gives you a complete view of your money — spending, income, budget, net worth, debt, and goals — all in one place, without ever connecting to your bank accounts.
What ZhanPlan Does (And Doesn't Do)
ZhanPlan does not connect to your bank. You are never asked for your bank login credentials, account numbers, or OAuth permissions. Instead, you upload CSV or PDF bank statements that you export yourself. ZhanPlan reads those files, categorizes your transactions using AI, and populates your dashboard.
This means your bank data stays yours. Nothing is shared with third parties. You control exactly what gets imported and when.
Step 1: Create Your Free Account
Go to zhanplan.com and click Get Started Free. Enter your email and create a password. No credit card is required at signup.
Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial automatically — so you can explore every feature before deciding whether to upgrade.
You can invite your partner or family members from your Profile settings after creating your account. Family members share the same dashboard, each importing their own statements.
Step 2: Import Your First Bank Statement
The fastest way to see ZhanPlan work is to import your most recent bank statement. Here's how:
- 1Go to Bank Import in the left sidebar
- 2Log in to your bank's website and download your most recent statement as a CSV or PDF
- 3Drag the file into the Bank Import upload area
- 4Wait a few seconds — ZhanPlan reads the file and shows you a table of transactions
- 5Review the categories (AI fills these in; you can edit any)
- 6Click Save All to confirm and push transactions to your Spending and Income trackers
ZhanPlan supports CSV exports from every major US bank including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, SoFi, Ally, USAA, Navy Federal, Discover, and Capital One. PDF imports also work — ZhanPlan uses AI to read both text-based and image-based PDFs.
Step 3: Check Your Spending Dashboard
After importing, click Spending in the sidebar. You will see:
- Your total spending for the selected month
- A breakdown by category (Dining Out, Food & Groceries, Transportation, etc.)
- Each individual transaction with its merchant name, amount, and date
- Recurring transactions automatically flagged
Use the month picker at the top to jump between months. If you imported statements for multiple months, all of them will be available here.
Step 4: Review Your Income
Click Income in the sidebar to see what ZhanPlan pulled in as income from your bank statement — payroll deposits, Zelle received, freelance payments, and similar credits.
ZhanPlan automatically excludes internal transfers (like moving money from your savings to checking) from your income total. Only real deposits count.
You can also manually add income sources that did not appear in your bank statement — cash payments, Venmo received, side income.
Step 5: Set Your Monthly Budget
Click Budget in the sidebar. This is where you tell ZhanPlan how much you want to spend in each category per month.
You do not have to fill every category at once. Start with the three or four categories where you suspect you are overspending — Dining Out, Entertainment, Subscriptions — and set limits there. ZhanPlan will show your actual spending versus your limit in real time as you import more statements.
Step 6: Add Your Fixed Expenses
Click Expenses in the sidebar to add bills and recurring costs that do not appear in your bank imports — rent, utilities, insurance, gym memberships.
These are the expenses that happen every month like clockwork. Adding them here lets ZhanPlan include them in your cash flow projections and budget calculations, even if you pay them with cash or a card you have not imported.
Step 7: Explore the Wealth Section (Pro)
If you are on the Pro trial, explore Net Worth, Cash Flow, Debt Payoff, and Goals. These features give you the full financial picture:
- Net Worth tracks all your assets and liabilities and shows whether you are gaining or losing ground
- Cash Flow shows your income versus expenses over 6 to 24 months
- Debt Payoff calculates your exact debt-free date using snowball or avalanche strategies
- Goals tracks specific targets like an emergency fund or a down payment with progress bars
What Plan Do I Need?
The Starter plan (free forever) gives you Bank Import, Spending, Income, Fixed Expenses, and your Profile. That is everything you need to understand where your money goes.
The Essential plan adds the Budget and Comparison features. The Pro plan unlocks Net Worth, Cash Flow, Debt Payoff, Savings, Goals, Forecast, Health Score, and the AI coach.
Every account starts with a 14-day Pro trial — so start with everything and decide later.
What banks does ZhanPlan support for CSV import?
ZhanPlan works with any bank that lets you download a CSV statement. This includes Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, SoFi, Ally, Discover, Capital One, USAA, Navy Federal, Citibank, TD Bank, Regions, and hundreds of local and credit union banks. If your bank exports CSVs with date, description, and amount columns, ZhanPlan can read it.
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. ZhanPlan never asks for your bank login, account number, or OAuth credentials. You download your bank statement yourself and upload the file. Your banking credentials are never seen, stored, or transmitted.
How long does the free trial last?
Every new account includes a 14-day Pro trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start the trial. After 14 days, your account automatically moves to the free Starter plan unless you choose to upgrade.
Can I invite my partner to share my dashboard?
Yes. From your Profile settings, you can invite your partner or family members by email. Each person imports their own bank statements, and all data merges into one shared dashboard automatically.
